Project: Materials and Water Desalination

The Departments of Chemical Engineering and Materials Engineering are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to work on an ARC Discovery project in materials and water desalination. This project will involve the development of new draw materials, including hydrogels, for the forward osmosis technique, to be used in desalination. It will also involve basic synthesis of both the draw medium, as well as the synthesis and/or incorporation of particles, nanomaterials and other functional materials into the draw materials both to encourage water uptake, as well as to allow dewatering to be stimulated by a range of techniques.

To be successful in this role, you will possess a PhD in Materials Engineering/Science, Chemical Engineering/Science or a related discipline. You will also have a demonstrated expertise in basic materials synthesis, characterisation and imaging, such as various forms of electron microscopy. Experience in methods for desalination of water using various membrane technologies is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be required to commence in early 2012.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
